OneSignal remains the freemium leader and default starting point for web push and mobile push at most SMB and mid-market shops, though its 2023 pricing changes pushed some power users to evaluate alternatives. Braze is the enterprise multi-channel engagement platform for app-led consumer businesses; the stock has slid roughly 70 percent from its 2021 IPO peak and Braze AI launched in 2024 to defend mid-market deals. MoEngage and CleverTap (which absorbed Leanplum in 2022) lead in Asia-headquartered mobile-app engagement; WebEngage is the Indian mid-market default. Airship carries the longest enterprise heritage from its Urban Airship roots but has stayed quiet through 2023 and 2024. Pushwoosh, CleverPush, Customer.io push, and Iterable push round out the field; choice among them is driven by geography, channel mix, and whether you already buy the parent platform for email and lifecycle orchestration.

    OneSignal

    G2 4.6 (1,820)

The freemium default for web push and mobile push.

OneSignal is the most widely adopted push notification platform in the world, primarily on the back of an aggressive free tier that covers most SMB and mid-market use cases at zero monthly cost. The product covers web push, iOS push, Android push, email, SMS, and in-app messaging from a single dashboard, with SDKs that integrate in hours. OneSignal raised a $50M Series C in September 2021. The 2023 pricing reset (tightening of the free tier and introduction of higher paid floors) created some user backlash on Reddit and G2, but the broad freemium adoption pipeline has continued. For any team starting from zero on push, OneSignal is still the default first install.

    Braze

    G2 4.6 (1,140)

    The public-company multi-channel engagement leader.

Braze (NASDAQ:BRZE) is the enterprise multi-channel customer engagement platform with push at the center of a broader stack that includes email, SMS, in-app, content cards, and Connected Content for dynamic personalization. Braze IPO listed in November 2021 at an initial $13B valuation; the stock has traded down roughly 70 percent from its peak as marketing-tech valuations reset. The company launched Braze AI in 2024 to defend mid-market deals against more affordable alternatives. For consumer apps and digital-first brands running coordinated lifecycle marketing at scale, Braze remains the default enterprise choice. For push-only or SMB use cases, the platform is significantly overbuilt.

    Pushwoosh

    G2 4.5 (480)

International mobile-first push with broad regional coverage.

Pushwoosh is the international mobile-first push platform with roughly 80,000 customers spanning publishers, retail, fintech, and gaming. The platform competes hardest with OneSignal on freemium and entry-tier pricing while offering deeper segmentation and a mobile-first SDK heritage. Pushwoosh has navigated a complicated 2022; the company rebranded as US-headquartered Pushwoosh Inc and restructured following questions about Russian-origin engineering raised during the Russia-Ukraine war. For most international SMB and mid-market buyers, Pushwoosh remains a credible OneSignal alternative with stronger segmentation; for US enterprise buyers running rigorous vendor diligence, the 2022 history may still come up in security review.

    Airship

    G2 4.4 (280)

Urban Airship heritage and the longest enterprise track record.

Airship (formerly Urban Airship) is the oldest enterprise mobile-engagement player in the list, having shipped one of the first commercial push notification platforms in 2009. The product carries the deepest enterprise heritage in the category and continues to anchor large mobile-led brands (retail, airlines, media) that have run on Airship for a decade or more. The trade-off is that Airship has been notably quiet across 2023 and 2024 on product news, AI capabilities, and competitive marketing, while Braze, MoEngage, and CleverTap have pushed harder on AI-led roadmaps. For incumbent customers and large enterprises that prioritize stability over novelty, Airship remains a credible choice; for new buyers evaluating fresh, the competitive set has moved.

    MoEngage

    G2 4.5 (580)

Asian-headquartered mobile-app engagement with AI leadership.

MoEngage is the Asian-origin mobile-app engagement platform that has pushed hardest among the international challengers into North American and European mid-market. The platform covers push, in-app, email, SMS, WhatsApp, and on-site messaging from a single dashboard with behavioral analytics and the Sherpa AI layer for personalization, send-time, and channel selection. MoEngage raised a $77M Series E in August 2022. Strongest fit is consumer apps in BFSI, retail, media, travel, and edtech that want a Braze-level multi-channel experience at meaningfully lower price points. The platform is especially strong with India-anchored businesses given its engineering origin and INR billing options.

    CleverPush

    G2 4.7 (180)

GDPR-strict European push with EU data residency.

CleverPush is the German-headquartered push notification platform built GDPR-first for European publishers, e-commerce, and media brands. The product covers web push, mobile push, in-app messages, and email from EU-hosted infrastructure with privacy and consent management aligned to ePrivacy and GDPR expectations. For European procurement teams that have had a US-hosted vendor flagged in privacy review, CleverPush is the natural alternative; for non-European buyers, the trade-off is a smaller integration ecosystem and less brand recognition outside the German-speaking market. Pricing is transparent and entry tiers are accessible, which differentiates it from quote-driven enterprise alternatives.

    Customer.io Push

    G2 4.5 (470)

Push module bundled inside Customer.io lifecycle orchestration.

Customer.io Push is the mobile and web push channel inside the broader Customer.io platform, bundled with email, SMS, in-app, and journey orchestration. It is not a standalone product; customers do not buy Customer.io Push without buying into the Customer.io platform. For any SaaS or product-led growth team already on Customer.io for email and lifecycle orchestration, adding push in the same tool removes the cross-channel coordination problem. For push-only SMBs, Customer.io is significantly overbuilt and OneSignal is the right call. Customer.io is privately held and developer-friendly, with a long-standing reputation for transparent pricing relative to the broader engagement-platform category.

    Leanplum

    G2 4.3 (310)

Leanplum mobile engagement under CleverTap ownership.

CleverTap acquired Leanplum in May 2022; financial terms were not disclosed. The combined offering covers push, in-app, email, web push, WhatsApp, and analytics for mobile-app engagement, with CleverTap leading the go-forward roadmap and Leanplum customers gradually migrated onto the CleverTap platform. The strategic logic was reasonable (two mid-tier mobile engagement players consolidating against Braze and MoEngage), but the multi-year migration of incumbent Leanplum customers onto CleverTap created some product-strategy uncertainty that has not fully resolved. For new buyers, the question is essentially whether to evaluate CleverTap directly; for incumbent Leanplum customers, the migration path is the central question.

    WebEngage

    G2 4.5 (280)

    Indian mid-market customer engagement leader.

WebEngage is the Indian-headquartered customer engagement platform with deep penetration across Indian e-commerce, fintech, edtech, BFSI, and travel. The product covers push, email, SMS, WhatsApp, web overlays, and in-app messaging with INR-native billing and India-data-residency options that matter for RBI-regulated and DPDP-compliant buyers. For India-first companies and South Asia regional expansion, WebEngage is the default mid-market choice; for global enterprise procurement, the platform is less recognized and integration ecosystem is narrower than Braze or MoEngage.

    Iterable Push

    G2 4.4 (620)

Push module bundled inside Iterable cross-channel growth.

Iterable Push is the mobile and web push channel inside the broader Iterable cross-channel growth marketing platform, bundled with email, SMS, in-app, and Studio journey orchestration. It is not a standalone product; customers do not buy Iterable Push without buying Iterable. For consumer-brand and digital-first marketing teams already on Iterable for email and lifecycle orchestration, adding push in the same tool removes cross-channel coordination friction. For push-only or SMB buyers, Iterable is significantly overbuilt. The company navigated a high-profile 2022 CEO departure (cofounder Justin Zhu was terminated and later disputed the circumstances publicly), and has since stabilized leadership while continuing enterprise growth.

How we rank push notification software

We evaluated 17 push notification platforms across six weighted factors: ease of use (20 percent), feature breadth (20 percent), value (20 percent), customer support (15 percent), scalability (15 percent), and integrations (10 percent). Pricing data was gathered from vendor websites in early 2026, accounting for the wide spread between freemium per-subscriber pricing (OneSignal, Pushwoosh, CleverPush) and per-MAU enterprise contracts (Braze, Airship, MoEngage, CleverTap, WebEngage). Verified pricing crowdsourced from 740 anonymized buyer disclosures. Ratings reflect G2 and Capterra as of April 2026. We pull review signal from G2, Capterra, Reddit, and Trustpilot, then keep only the patterns that show up in at least 15 percent of feedback after human verification. Vendor trust scoring treats Customer.io and Iterable push modules as distinct from their respective email-marketing parent products, and treats Leanplum under CleverTap ownership as a separate entity from CleverTap standalone.
