Top 10 IAM / SSO Software in India for 2026

Independent ranking of IAM and SSO software for India, INR pricing, DPDP Act 2023 fit, RBI MFA mandates for BFSI, Aadhaar authentication context.

India verdict (TL;DR)

Verified 2026-05-17

Microsoft Entra ID dominates large Indian enterprises through Microsoft 365 penetration and the deep Microsoft partnership with TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL. Okta runs the product-company and SaaS-first tier (Razorpay, Zepto, Groww). ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus (Zoho, Chennai) is the single most important India-local IAM product and runs in thousands of Indian mid-market and enterprise deployments at INR pricing. DPDP Act 2023 personal data rules and RBI MFA mandates for BFSI are the two compliance anchors.

Picks for India

  • IT services giants and Microsoft-anchored enterprises (TCS, Infosys, Wipro tier): entra-id Default at every Indian IT-services major on Microsoft 365. Deep Microsoft EA partnership pricing. Conditional Access for hybrid AD environments. MeitY cloud compliance-ready via Azure India data centres.
  • Modern Indian product companies and SaaS (50-5,000 employees): okta Razorpay, Zepto, Groww, CRED-tier product companies run Okta. Strongest integration ecosystem for non-Microsoft stacks. INR billing via Ingram Micro or CDW India resellers.
  • Indian mid-market (200-5,000 employees) wanting local pricing: jumpcloud INR-priced options via local partners. Cloud-native directory replacing Active Directory. Best for Indian mid-market without dedicated IT security team.
  • BFSI MFA and privileged access (RBI compliance): duo RBI Master Directions on IT Governance (2023) mandate multi-factor authentication for internet banking and privileged access. Duo FedRAMP-certified architecture maps to RBI AAA requirements. Widely deployed in Axis Bank, HDFC Securities tier.
  • Indian CIAM and developer teams: auth0 Indian SaaS and fintech engineering teams use Auth0 for CIAM. Developer-first SDK. 25,000 MAU free tier. India data residency available via Okta deployments.
  • Indian enterprises with PAM + IGA needs: cyberark-identity CyberArk has meaningful India presence (Bangalore office). PAM-anchored identity for Indian BFSI (SBI Life, ICICI Lombard tier). Strong privileged access governance for SEBI IT risk circular compliance.
Market context

How the identity & access management (iam) / sso market looks in India

India's IAM market has two entirely separate layers that most global rankings conflate. The first is the global-vendor layer where Microsoft Entra ID and Okta dominate: every IT-services major (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra) runs Microsoft Entra ID as the internal workforce IAM, a direct consequence of their enterprise Microsoft agreements and Azure-first partnerships. The modern product-company layer (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai-tier SaaS and fintech) runs Okta for workforce IAM and Auth0 for CIAM, mirroring US product-company patterns.

The second layer is the India-local vendor layer, which global rankings systematically undercount. ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus (Zoho Group, Chennai) is the single most important IAM product by Indian install base: tens of thousands of Indian mid-market deployments at ₹800-₹3,500/user/year pricing, native AD integration, Hindi and regional language admin UI, and a Chennai-based support team. Securden (Chennai) is the emerging India PAM specialist. These products don't appear in global G2 rankings at scale because their buyers are Indian-market-centric SMBs and mid-market companies who don't review on English-language platforms.

The DPDP Act 2023 (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, notified August 2023, enforcement framework from 2025) introduces personal data principal rights (consent, correction, erasure) and cross-border transfer restrictions for sensitive personal data. IAM systems process employee and customer identity data that qualifies as personal data; DPDP-ready deployments require consent workflows, data localisation (MeitY-approved data fiduciaries must store data in India), and deletion-on-request capabilities. Microsoft Entra ID on Azure India regions and Okta with India data residency satisfy localisation requirements; JumpCloud does not currently offer India data residency.

Compliance & local rules

DPDP Act 2023: personal data of Indian residents must be processed with valid consent; IAM systems that process employee identity data need consent audit trails and deletion workflows. MeitY guidelines for cloud services require government-sector deployments to use MeitY-empanelled CSPs (Microsoft Azure India, AWS Mumbai, Google Cloud Mumbai). RBI Master Directions on IT Governance (2023) mandate MFA for internet-banking access, privileged administrative access, and remote access to bank systems; Duo, Okta Adaptive MFA, and Entra ID Conditional Access all satisfy this. SEBI Cybersecurity and Cyber Resilience Framework (CSCRF, 2024) mandates identity governance and privileged access management for stock brokers, AMCs, and depositories. Aadhaar-based authentication for workforce identity is restricted by the Aadhaar Act 2016 to UIDAI-authorized entities; most enterprises use private KYC providers (IDfy, Signzy, Hyperverge) for identity proofing, separate from the IAM layer.

Visit Rippling SSO

Rippling SSO is bundled with Rippling HRIS (covered separately in our Top 10 HRIS ranking) and Rippling Payroll (in our Top 10 Payroll Software ranking). The product's primary advantage: unified employee + identity lifecycle (employee onboarding in HRIS automatically provisions SSO + apps), making it the default for Rippling-committed SMBs (10-500 employees). Trade-offs: outside the Rippling ecosystem the product is significantly weaker, integration ecosystem narrower than Okta (~600), and standalone use case rare.

Best for

SMBs (10-500 employees) already on Rippling HRIS wanting unified employee + identity lifecycle (HRIS-driven SSO provisioning).

Worst for

Non-Rippling organizations (Okta/Entra better), enterprise (Okta/Entra/Ping better), or customer IAM (Auth0 better fit).

Strengths

  • Unified employee + identity lifecycle with Rippling HRIS
  • Default for Rippling-committed SMBs
  • Native HRIS-driven provisioning
  • Fits 10-500 employee Rippling shops
  • Modern UX

Weaknesses

  • Outside Rippling ecosystem significantly weaker
  • Integration ecosystem narrower (~600)
  • Standalone use case rare
  • Identity governance features limited
  • Less penetration than Okta/Entra

Frequently asked questions

The questions buyers actually ask before they sign.

Why does ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus not appear in the global top 10?
ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus (Zoho Group, Chennai) is an India-dominant product with limited presence in US, EU, or UK enterprise markets at scale. Our global top 10 reflects global reach and review data across G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot. ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus is strong in Indian mid-market but thin in global review platforms. For Indian buyers at 100-5,000 employees, ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus at ₹800-₹3,500/user/year is often the right answer alongside or instead of Okta.
How does the DPDP Act 2023 affect IAM procurement in India?
DPDP Act 2023 requires valid consent for processing personal data of Indian residents, right-to-erasure on request, and data fiduciary registration for significant data fiduciaries. IAM systems that store employee identity data (names, email, biometrics, Aadhaar-linked identifiers) are covered. Microsoft Entra ID on Azure India regions, Okta with India data residency, and ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus on-premises all satisfy data localisation. JumpCloud does not currently offer India data centres; regulated Indian enterprises should flag this with JumpCloud before procurement.
Does my BFSI organization need specific IAM for RBI compliance?
RBI Master Directions on IT Governance (2023) require MFA for internet banking, privileged administrative access, and remote access. Any FCA-equivalent audit would check for: MFA enforcement for all privileged accounts, session timeout controls, and privileged access review logs. Duo Security, Okta Adaptive MFA, Entra ID Conditional Access, and ManageEngine PAM360 all satisfy RBI MFA requirements. SEBI CSCRF (2024) additionally requires IGA with quarterly access reviews for market infrastructure institutions.
Okta vs Microsoft Entra ID, which one?
Microsoft Entra ID if you're on Microsoft 365 E3 or E5, Entra is bundled at no extra cost, which is the single biggest economic lever in IAM. Okta if you're a non-Microsoft enterprise needing the deepest integration ecosystem (7,000+ apps vs Entra ~3,000). For Microsoft-anchored shops, Entra usually wins on TCO; for best-of-breed integration depth, Okta usually wins. Both are credible at enterprise scale.
How does this differ from your SIEM ranking?
Our Top 10 SIEM Software ranking covers log aggregation and security event monitoring (Splunk, Sentinel, etc.). This IAM ranking covers identity provisioning and authentication (who can access what). Both feed each other, IAM events flow into SIEM, SIEM detection rules trigger IAM responses. Most enterprises run both. Microsoft Sentinel + Microsoft Entra ID is a common combo.
How much should I budget for IAM?
SMB on M365 E3+ (1-100 employees): $0 incremental (Entra bundled). SMB without M365: $11-$24/user/mo (JumpCloud Core to Platform). Mid-market (100-1,000 employees): $4-$15/user/mo (Okta SSO+MFA, OneLogin Pro). Enterprise (1,000+ employees): $15-$30/user/mo (Okta full platform, Ping bundles, CyberArk). Customer IAM (Auth0): per-MAU scaling.
How long does IAM implementation take?
JumpCloud, Duo: 1-2 weeks. Okta SSO basic: 4-8 weeks. Okta full platform: 12-16 weeks. Microsoft Entra ID: 6-12 weeks (often coupled with M365 deployment). Ping Identity, CyberArk: 12-32 weeks (enterprise). Auth0: 1-4 weeks (engineering team). Plan change management, user MFA enrollment is the biggest bottleneck.
What about passwordless and passkeys in 2026?
Passkeys (FIDO2) are now table-stakes in IAM 2026: (1) Microsoft Entra ID, full passkey support free with M365. (2) Okta, passkey support, free in Workforce Identity. (3) Beyond Identity, passwordless-first architecture. (4) Auth0, passkey support. Vendors that gate passkeys behind premium tiers (some legacy IAM) are losing share. If your IAM doesn't support passkeys, plan a migration.
Should I pick best-of-breed or bundled IAM?
Best-of-breed (Okta separate, Auth0 separate, Duo separate): better when you're heavy in non-Microsoft apps and want depth in each module. Bundled (Microsoft Entra, Rippling SSO, JumpCloud Platform): better when you want unified billing and lifecycle. Most mid-market lands on bundled (Entra for M365 shops, Rippling for Rippling-anchored, JumpCloud for SMB without M365).
How do IAM breaches affect vendor selection?
The Okta 2022 Lapsus$ breach and 2023 support breach reset trust expectations across the category. After-action: (1) Verify the vendor's breach disclosure history. (2) Require breach notification SLAs in the contract. (3) Run quarterly access reviews regardless of vendor. (4) Don't rely on the IAM vendor as your only line of defense, combine with EDR, SIEM, and conditional access policies.
How does this overlap with HRIS for employee provisioning?
Modern HRIS (Workday, BambooHR, Rippling) drives IAM provisioning via SCIM. When an employee is hired in HRIS, the IAM auto-creates the SSO account. When terminated, IAM auto-deprovisions. Rippling SSO is bundled with Rippling HRIS (we use distinct product IDs `rippling-sso` and `rippling-hris`). Workday Recruiting (in Top 10 ATS) and Workday HCM (in Top 10 HRIS) drive provisioning to Okta/Entra.
